Social Semiotics

    "Social semiotics is a social theory about meaning and meaning-making in (inter-) action; it examines the varieties of ways texts can be made" (Gualberto and Kress 2018). Different channels for connections, whether they be visual, audible, or verbal, are different modes of social semiotics. Social semiotics analyzes how we communicate with each other through a variety of methods, and how they all contribute to social interactions. Gunther Kress was one of the pioneers of social semiotics and is acknowledged for his great contribution to the development of the theory (Adami et al 2022). To analyze arguments online I decided to go to X, formally known as twitter, and search what people are saying about the latest Vanderpump Rules reunion.  Vanderpump Rules is a reality show about a bar, Real Housewife star Lisa Vanderpump owns, and focuses on the drama between her staff. Over the 11 years it has been on air there has been an additional episode after the season concludes where the cast comes back together to go over what happened.  This year the reunion focused on the aftermath of the drama from the previous reunion, where a large affair was revealed. Over the course of the most recent season divisions occurred between cast members and the audience over who is in the right, specifically between Arianna and Lala (Lauren). Ariana had been previously with, Tom Sandoval, for over 10 years before he cheated with one of her closets friends, Raquel (Rachel).
