Knapp's Relationship Model

A recent interpersonal relationship that has been coming together in my life is the relationships I have formed between me and my sorority sisters. I joined last spring and have gotten to know all the girls, but I am really close with a group of them.

It began in the initiating stage when we all joined over the past couple terms and got to know each other. We started to spend time together outside of chapter and found common interets to do together.

It moved to the experimenting stage when we started hanging out multiple times a week and talked about our families and backgrounds.

The relationships progressed to the intensifying stage when we started expressing that we see each other as close friends, and went to each other for support and advice. We started leaning on each other when we were going through a tough time.

We went to the integrating stage when we started driving to chapter together, going grocery shopping together, and making plans for summer trips to each others hometowns.

I think we are not at the bonding stage quite yet, but I'm sure we will get there soon. I also know that I have two more years with these girls and we have plenty of time to build our friendships.

I think online communication has positively impacted our friendships because we started getting to know each other through snap chat group chats and sending each other videos on instagram and tiktok. It allowed us to bond without having to be physically together all the time which can be a little awkward at the start.
