Oversharing Online
Many different factors can influence the type of affect Facebook has on an individual. These affects can be negative, like possible links to depression or they can be positive, like boosts in self-esteem.
Some factors that can cause these affects are ones relationship with themselves and their body image, the amount of time the spend online, the types of circles or relationships they build online, the communities they join, and the way they represent themselves and interact with others.
I believe that social networking sites have a responsibility to promote mental health to their users and spread awareness of the possible affects to social media use. Sites should create ads within their sites for information about mental health resources and awareness. They should also create content to post within their sites with more information and videos about how to use social media responsibly. The environments created on these sites can cause lasting affects on mental health and since the site hosts these communities they have a responsibility to provide support and spread awareness.
